(Beijing, April 30, 2007) Beijing T3G Technology Co., Ltd announced its 7208 dual mode reference design has achieved the world’s first voice automatic handover between TD-SCDMA and GSM networks. This reference design can automatically switch between the two networks according to signal strength with less time delay, high speech quality and end-users high satisfaction.

 The automatic handover function has been validated successfully by carrying out IOT test on TD-SCDMA networks of Datang Mobile, ZTE and TD-Tech. T3G dual mode TD-SCDMA/GSM handset reference design solution was adopted in the test, seamless automatic handover of voice calls between 3G TD-SCDMA networks and 2G GSM networks is achieved.  This means the end-user as long as his/her handset possesses TD-SCDMA/GSM dual mode automatic handover function, when he/she moves to suburb area where TD-SCDMA networks don’t cover yet, his/her call can be automatically switched to existing GSM network without call drop or any other influences. All the networks selection and handover are carried out by the handset itself, no manual operation needed thus end-users can really enjoy the seamless usage of TD-SCDMA. 

 At present, China Mobile and other China’s operators have already implemented the construction of TD-SCDMA networks in 10 cities, including 6 host cities of Beijing Olympics 2008. By using the dual mode handsets, audiences from China and other countries will enjoy advanced TD-SCDMA 3G services or continue to use existing 2.5G mobile communication services according to their requirements.    

 The realization of TD-SCDMA and GSM automatic handover function ensures great backward compatibility of TD-SCDMA networks with 2.5G networks. Handset users can make phone calls when walking between the two networks, no call drop will occur. Thus the most challenging technical hurdle facing the TD-SCDMA handsets at the initial commercial stage has been cleared.  The realization of T3G’s automatic handover technology supports handset makers greatly on developing competitive TD-SCDMA handsets.
